✦ Where You Are Right Now ✦

You feel called to this.
But something is missing.

You love Gregorian Chant. You've heard it sung well and felt something stir in you — something you couldn't fully explain. And you've tried to learn. But most paths forward look like this:

  • Scattered YouTube videos that contradict each other and leave you more confused than when you started.
  • Books written for specialists — dense, technical, assuming you already read Latin and understand modal theory.
  • Parish workshops that scratch the surface, teach you a few pieces by rote, and leave you exactly where you started six months later.
  • Hours of practice with a nagging feeling that you're still doing it wrong — and no one to tell you otherwise.
  • A sense that the tradition is deep, vast, and extraordinary — and that you're only standing at the door.

"You don't just want to sing chant. You want to understand it — to pray it — to offer it to God with confidence and beauty."

"

This course is phenomenal. Having earned my Master's in Music Performance, I can honestly say it is equivalent to a two-semester upper-level university course — yet still accessible to beginners. A sacred music conference would barely scratch the surface of what this provides. It's worth every penny and more.

✦ The Path Forward ✦

Not a collection of videos.
A Transformation.

The Flagship Master Course was built to solve exactly the problem above. It is the most systematic, in-depth study of Gregorian Chant available anywhere online — built by someone who has spent 25+ years being formed in this tradition himself.

This is not content delivery. It is a guided path — from your first encounter with square notation all the way to the ancient manuscript markings that reveal how chant truly wants to be sung. Every layer builds on the last. Every concept is taught in context. You will never feel abandoned or lost.

"I've been a priest for 33 years and taught myself Gregorian Chant — but I was never able to fully master it, until now." — Fr. Anthony Mary, FSSR, New Zealand

I

Built on the Masters

Rooted in the Solesmes tradition — the scholarly lineage running from Dom Guéranger to Dom Saulnier and Msgr Alberto Turco — not personal opinion or YouTube consensus.

II

Layer by Layer

Each module builds on the last. You are never asked to understand something you haven't been prepared for. The result is genuine comprehension, not memorization.

III

Chant as Prayer

Technical mastery in service of something higher. Every lesson is oriented toward the liturgy — toward offering this music to God with beauty and confidence.

IV

You Are Not Alone

Community access, monthly live Q&As with Christopher, and a brotherhood of cantors from around the world. Ask questions. Get answers. Keep going.

Voices from the formation

"

Before this course, my chant skills were hitherto unrooted in any study. Thanks to Christopher's expert instruction, I was able to confidently sing the Tenebrae Office of Holy Week. Next year, I shall hopefully be leading it. Highly recommended.

I have only just begun but I've already noticed a distinct difference in the pleasantness of my chanting tone and growing proficiency in sight-reading. Thank you for what you have made here.

I went from zero knowledge and experience in Gregorian Chant to singing the complex and challenging offertory chant 'Stetit Angelus' and Alleluia 'O Maria rubens rosa' in only 3 months.

Prior to this course, I could easily have said that I had a preference for polyphony — thanks to this course, Gregorian Chant is now easily my favorite. Mr. Jasper provides a very informative, in-depth, unbiased, and comprehensive study.

Having just graduated from High School and aspiring to join a Religious order, I would encourage anyone — no matter your experience — to consider Mr. Jasper's Course as an easy and concrete way to grow in appreciation and understanding of Gregorian Chant.

Jasper

Christopher Jasper is the founder and director of the Gregorian Chant Academy. He was formed in the tradition from childhood — immersed in the recordings of the monks of Solesmes before he could read notation, teaching himself square neumes from his grandfather's Liber Usualis at age seven.

He trained under Dom Daniel Saulnier at the Abbey of Solesmes — the living center of the 19th-century chant restoration — and later at the Centre d'Études Supérieures de la Renaissance in Tours, France. He lived as a Benedictine postulant at the Abbey of St. Benedict in Norcia, Italy in 2014.

Through his work with the GCA, Christopher has developed a professional relationship with two of the world's foremost chant scholars: Msgr. Alberto Turco — friend and disciple of both Dom Cardine and Dom Jean Claire — and Prof. Giacomo Baroffio, one of the leading musicologists in medieval sacred music.

He does not teach from a curriculum. He teaches from a life formed by this tradition — and that is the difference your ear will hear.

✦ Common Questions ✦

Before you decide,
let me address this.

"I have absolutely no musical background. Is this really for me?" +
Yes — and this concern is more common than you might think. The Square Notation Mini Course is included in its entirety and was built precisely for this starting point. You will learn to read neumes, understand Latin pronunciation, and train your ear before a single piece of chant is placed in front of you. Beginners are not an afterthought here. They are one of the primary people this course was designed for. Dr. Ruth Butler — a psychologist with no prior music training — called it "a literal gift from God."
"I've tried other resources and ended up more confused. How is this different?" +
Most chant resources — books, workshops, scattered videos — assume background knowledge you may not have, or teach pieces in isolation without the framework to understand them. This course teaches the structure behind the music, so that you are not memorizing individual chants, but learning the language itself. Once you understand the language, any piece you encounter becomes readable.
"I have a busy life. Can I realistically complete this?" +
The course is entirely self-paced. There is no schedule, no deadline, no cohort you have to keep up with. You learn when you can — whether that is thirty minutes before Vespers on a Tuesday or an hour on Saturday morning. Salma Horvath — a stay-at-home mother of six — completed the course and called it equivalent to a two-semester upper-level university course. If she found the time, so can you.
"Is this worth the investment?" +
Let the students answer that. Salma Horvath: "Having earned my Master's in Music Performance, I can honestly say this course is equivalent to a two-semester upper-level university course, yet still accessible to beginners. It's worth every penny and more." Sergio Ramón Topete Ubach put it even more plainly: "It's worth way more than it costs." Dr. Ruth Butler added that the pricing is "very generous." The GCA exists to put authentic formation within reach of every serious student.
"When does enrollment open?" +
Enrollment opens periodically — not on a fixed schedule. The waitlist is the only way to be notified when a new enrollment window opens. Joining the waitlist is free and commits you to nothing. It simply ensures that when the doors open, you are the first to know — and have the first opportunity to enroll.
