These are the words of Exorcist Fr Dan Rehill, echoed by my personal friend and exorcist Fr Chad Ripperger and his assistant Dr Dan Schneider. Dr Schneider explains why with a powerful story of an exorcism he assisted at:
During a particularly difficult session, father asked him to get things "engaged." So he pulled out his phone and played a recording of the Te Deum, sung by Benedictine monks. Within seconds, the demon went into a "brutal" manifestation.
WHY? As Fr. Ripperger explains, because demons chose evil—which is inherently ugly—the objective, rightly ordered beauty of chant is intensely revulsive to them. The chant reminds the demons of exactly what they were made for—to chant before the throne of God in glory— and exactly what they have forfeited forever.
BUT... chants don't always work. As he explains, it isn't just the Latin, the text or the melody that matters; it's also the intention and purity of heart behind the voices singing. True prayer, not just beautiful music. That is exactly why we are recording our new album, Defend Us In Battle.
As a former Benedictine postulant and current Oblate, I and my schola aren't "performers". We are devout, practicing Catholics recording real prayer. We pray before and after every rehearsal; we bless ourselves with holy water; we pray the litany of humility and invoke the intercession of the saints to ensure these chants are purified and offered as true adoration. We are forging a real spiritual weapon and we need you at the anvil!
Excellence for God’s Glory
While we would love to record in a real church in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament, our local area lacks a space with the sufficient acoustics required to create a "sword" of this caliber (though our future St. Joan of Arc church definitely will!).
To give these chants the quality they—and your home—deserve, we will be recording in a professional studio, using real reverbs recorded from real churches in Europe.
When you partner with us, you aren't just funding a recording—you are arming the Church Militant with a shield of protection and a sword for battle.

Check out the video to the right to hear the St Michael prayer chanted in our very first rehearsal.
This and a few other select tracks will also feature some vocal drones in the finished product.

Gregorian chant helps calm the mind and body, expresses the interior meaning of the text and helps draw the soul closer to Christ and live in accordance with His will. It can also serve as a wonderful tool for Lectio Divina.
Sacred chants have long been known to be tortuous to the damned. They hate beauty and the Word of God, and certain chants remind them of the glory they could have had, as well as the instruments of their judgement and the power certain saints have over them. Exorcists even use them in their sessions to drive out the demons!
Many of the chants' beautiful melodies were composed by holy religious men and women - some of whom are well known saints - and many of the texts are taken from Sacred Scripture, especially the Psalms.
